Title: 0630 Day's first cup of coffee
Artist: Hakka ( [personal profile] prue84 )
Fandom: Star Trek (TOS)
Pairing: Kirk/Spock (implied)
Characters: James Kirk
Rating: G
Tagline: Extract from the Captain's Schedule: 06.30 Wake up. Brief with the bridge.
Series: Second in this bathrobe miniseries. First piece here.
Notes: Ohh, see where Jim is. Has he picked the wrong door the night before? XD And look whose bathrobe he's wearing!
Tec stuffs (aka Behind The Manip): Fuck this: I can't fix the awful quality of Shatner's promo pic even if my life depended from it. I don't like the face's position either but the original pic had already this weird angle and I couldn't make any better, with my limited manip skills.
That's why I hate to make TOS manips: there's little to nothing to work with, unless you go for the screencaps - that not always work. There are some HQ promo pics but they have weird colors and I'm still unable to turn them into "normal".
Disclaimer: Don't own anything on this. Full credits below the manip itself.

This piece was ready since... well, it sat on my HD for a couple of weeks I'd say. I made it after the reboot one was done but I didn't fell like post it because I wasn't satisfied with Shatty. Yesterday morning I gave it a last try playing a bit with all the effects under "adjustment" but nothing... and then I sort of gave up and went "the hell with this".
I don't know, probably part of why I'm always the worst critic of my own work, is (besides be a stupid perfectionist) because I know which parts I put together so I always see this Frankestein kind of image made of many images put together, instead of an unique smooth image? I know I shouldn't be - seen photos that had something "wrong" in them but were original, not manipped! - but I can't help it.

However, you words warms my heart, because I still really can't believe the color/lights on Shatner's face (never will) but knowing someone like you believe the head works, after all, helps shutting down that little voice in me that keeps saying that this manip is shitty. :D

[Next time I'll work with TOS promo material, I'll probably try everything under "adjustment" BEFORE cut out the part I need. I spent too much time to work with a head and then trashing it because I can't blend it on the image - see TOS Jim in the Knight Rider manip: that wasn't the original head I meant to use]

Perfectionism is good - as long as it doesn't block your creativity.

Moi, I have my own problems with perfectionism, but I go with the Japanese wabi sabi - a work of art is REAL art when it's faulty: the vase that isn't perfectly round, the glaze with the crack, the bureau with signs of wear and tear....I like the philosophy behind it - life is change, nothing is perfect, and even the perfect changes with time - it makes life (and manipping) easier! ;)
